Melrose Amateur Operatic Society was founded in 1935 to foster the appreciation of the works of Sir W S Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan. Since it’s first production of  “The Gondoliers” the Society has regularly performed the much-loved Savoy operas appreciated by Queen Victoria in the 1880s and by the English-speaking people throughout the world ever since.

New members are always welcome. The annual show is the main focus of activity. Membership of the Society is also an opportunity to become part of a friendly family of G & S enthusiasts. There is a regular programme of social activities, including patronage of our post-rehearsal “watering-hole” - Burts Hotel.(see Getting Involved)

Society members choose, by popular vote, which G & S operetta will be performed at the Corn Exchange, Melrose in February each year.

Auditions for principal parts take place in early September. Rehearsals are held in the Ormiston Institute, Melrose on Monday evenings from the start of September, with the addition of Thursday evenings from mid-November. (See 2008 Show)
In addition the Society is regularly involved in other concerts and events throughout the year. .
